Privacy Policy

Stem Buddy is made by Noah Kugell (sole proprietor), doing business as Stem Buddy. Stem Buddy works on your Mac. Your audio, your Logic projects and your track names stay on your Mac. Here’s everything that does leave it, and why. Last updated October 28, 2026.

Usage statistics (on by default, easy to turn off)

After each finished export, Stem Buddy sends: how many files were bounced, how long it took, the app version, the edition, and a random ID created for your installation. Never song, track or file names, folder paths or audio. They’re collected with Google Forms, so Google processes them for us.

To turn them off: Stem Buddy menu › Share Usage Statistics.

Update checks

About once a day, Stem Buddy downloads a small signed file from this website to see if there’s a new version. The request contains nothing about you or your music; like any web request, our host (Cloudflare) sees your IP address.

Text and email alerts (optional, off until you set them up)

Text: Stem Buddy sends your phone number, how the export ended and how many files were made to our alert relay (Google Apps Script), which sends the text through our SMS provider, Twilio. Reply STOP to any text to stop them. Message and data rates may apply.
Email: Stem Buddy sends your email address, how the export ended (for example “complete”) and how many files were made to our alert relay, which runs on Google Apps Script and sends the email with Gmail. The relay keeps a count of alerts per address or number for one hour to prevent abuse, and nothing else.

Both only ever say how the export ended and how many files were made, never song or track names.

We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Your number is used only to send the export alerts you asked for. See the Stem Buddy Alerts terms.

Trial download

To download the free trial you give us your email. It’s stored in a Google Form (Google processes it for us). We use it to send a few tips while you try Stem Buddy, and news and offers only if you ticked that box. Reply “stop” to any email and we’ll remove you.

Free trial and license

The 7-day trial is tracked on your Mac only (a file plus a Keychain entry), with no account and no server. When you buy, our store, Lemon Squeezy, handles payment and your purchase details under their own privacy policy. Stem Buddy checks your license key with Lemon Squeezy once when you enter it, then about once a day when online. It sends only the key and an anonymous install label, never your Mac’s name.

Reports you choose to send

If something goes wrong, “Save report…” makes a file you can choose to email us. Stem Buddy never sends reports by itself. Reports leave out song names, project names and your user name.
